Our Animal Family
Our animal
family consists of a host of critters! We use the milk from our dairy herd for cheese making. Our bovine herd
consists of Brown Swiss cows, yak and riverine water buffalo. We also have a small herd of sheep. Our
goats are registered through the American Dairy Goat Association.
Green & Humane What does Green & Humane mean? We are not certified organic but our practices
are organic. Because we feed our herd spent barley that is not certified organic, we cannot claim that status.
Our herd spends their day roaming in our pastures and woods. They graze on fresh pasture, various grasses, alfalfa and
blackberry thickets. They are also fed spent barley recycled from the Pike Brewery during milking time. All of
our whey is fed back to our goats daily as a natural probiotic. Our husbandry and land practices are organic.
They all have names given to them based on their individual personalities. How do we keep up
with all their names? Well, how does a school teacher learn the names of his students? They act out, you don't
forget them. They're shy, tattle tales, get into trouble, etc. Our animals do just the same thing. We've
got our sweet girls, our drama queens, our trouble makers.... just like a room full of kids. They are truly special
to us!

February thru April is birthing season at the
ranch! If you're interested in bottle feeding, skidaddle on over. One hundred & twenty of our
does are freshening. What was that you said? Speak English! 125 of our goats are having babies those months.
Each doe typically has twins, triplets or quads. Do the math.....we have lots of mouths to bottle feed. Interested
in volunteering? Give us a holler!
